Artist Bio
Lori Love AKA Irol Mixed Media Artist
Prior to moving to Charlotte, NC from Charleston, SC in 2010, Lori was primarily an abstract painter working in oils and acrylics. The move to Charlotte proved to be a pivotal turning point in her journey as an artist as the move opened a door to experimentation and artistic freedom. It provided a “safe” space for experimentation and a fertile environment for pushing the traditional boundaries of acceptable artistic mediums.
Her work with vinyl, while somewhat happenstance, in hindsight, was not that unpredictable as her natural curiosity had already begun to percolate with the use of gunpowder as an artistic medium and combustion as a process. The idea of deconstructing material by changing its property and or the way in which the material was originally intended, was a “welcomed challenge. “ “For me, vinyl and the process and engineering of vinyl to a new artistic platform, suited my artistic temperament.”
As an avid music lover covering many different genres and a lover of the analog sound, she was intrigued as to what else this “archaic” artistic medium could be useful for once it was no longer viable for its original intent. “My goal was to return the material to its original glory in the form of iconic portraits of music icons and other artist vital to popular culture.”
Most recently, Lori has also begun incorporating CD’s, DVD’s and VHS tape, more recent causalities of the techno age, into her portraits. These materials bring a new level of texture, color and light to these larger than life figures of the past and present.
In the age of mass production and an ever increasing awareness of the by products of this mass consumption, Lori’s art gives these "by products" of a bygone era another life in a unique visual form.
Lori is a national and international exhibiting artist who’s portraits can be found in both private and corporate collections stateside and abroad. Recent corporate patrons include Live Nation, Mckibbon Hospitality and Woodfield Development.
